It looks like I'm going to have to take a little break from blogging for a few days, or until the wedding I'm filming is over.

In the meantime, just know that, while Star Wars Episode II isn't the best movie ever made, it was quite fun. It also contains the "movie event of the year"--no Episode II isn't that movie event...it's a two minute part of Episode II and that two minutes is dominated by Yoda. That's all I'm going to say.

I spent much of last night tinkering with my laptop and its operating system...I guess I was bored, but I really thought that finding the seedy UNIX underbelly to my graphical user interface would be a good idea.

The first thing I did was find that my system has a command line. This might seem really obvious to some, but for anyone who has used Macs, especially the classic Mac OS, this is a real surprise. I couldn't find a command line in Mac OS 9 to save my life. But all I do now is launch Terminal.app and *poof!* I get to type. The cool thing is typing a word and getting a window to pop up. I forgot how I did that, but it was fun.

So, to make a long and boring story short and still as boring, I got to see how unattractive my computer can be, gained a new appreciation for the people at Apple and the work they've put into the OS, and escaped without killing my nice laptop.

I was going to post a list of the simple little things that have made me happy lately, but I almost didn't. I wrote off the idea, thinking I was a shallow bourgeois consumer (please add a pejorative tone of voice when you read that word), encumbered by things. But then I read Anne's blog and her short list and fine quote changed my mind back to the original plan. So, to be brief.

Quote (from Anne): "happiness is not found in material things. i know. however, there is much happiness to be found in the spirit of said material things."

List:
1) My Paul Frank Wallet with a monkey on it. It's fun, it's cute, and it's started lots of conversations with nice people who I did not know before.
2) My Cat in the Hat cigarette case. I don't smoke, but it doubles as a "going out" wallet. I don't really go clubbing either, but I figure there has to be an occasion when all I'll need is a small metal tin with an ID and my debit card. Surely I can be that cool.
3) The new lamp that my parents got me for my birthday (I'm now 24). I have a room plastered with city skylines. Everything's neutral or grey...except for my previous lamp--a pink tulip lamp...it was the only thing we had. Now I have a nice brushed metal/black leather number that is quite good for reading.
4) This post card on my wall--it's a black and white pic of these guys in 1940s New York loading a huge once-electically-lit sign into the back of a truck. I love the fact that the soon-to-be-disposed-of sign says "DAMAGED". It makes me smile.
5) Another postcard--this one from Megan. It's a 1950s nurse standing next to a two-foot tall fridge filled with brightly colored cough syrups. There is no explanation for the pose, the fridge, the cough syrup, or the baby blue background. It's perfect.

So, those are the little things that I've been thankful for recently. I thought I'd share the joy. You can come over and look at them if you'd like. =)

Thanks, Anne, for paving the way for what I should of let myself to do in the first place. =)

It's true! After watching Spider-man for the 2nd time, I can positively attest to the fact that Kirsten Dunst's last few lines spoken to Tobey Maguire...rhyme. They rhyme! See, be, me...Someone should find David Koepp and beat the crap out of him. =)
