A funny thing that happened yesterday:
I've been waiting for a software package I ordered from UCF's Computer Store. I started to wonder if they had lost track of the order when I found that the software had been released quite awhile ago. So, with nagging suspicion in hand, I called them up. Here's the conversation:
ME: Hi, I was wondering if an order came in for David Sherwood.
(Note: I always have to use my "official" name for things like this...blah)
GIRL ON PHONE (contempt): Did we CALL you?
ME: No, I was just wondering if it might have come in and was waiting for me to pick it up.
GIRL ON PHONE (more contempt): But, sir, did we CALL you? We would CALL if it's in.
Silence.
ME: Um...
Silence.
GIRL ON PHONE (huge sigh): Do you want me to check?
ME: If you could.
GIRL: Name?
ME: David Sherwood
(typing--she then announces the software package's name)
ME: Yeah, that's what I ordered.
GIRL: Can I put you on hold?
ME: Sure.
(she then proceeds to put a finger over the reciever and talks to someone near. All I could hear were snippets: "WE didn't CALL him", "guess we better check", "it's what?, "on the shelf? no way! Oh man...")
GIRL (back on phone, sweetest voice ever, Snow White-like): We have it Mr. Sherwood! It was put out on the shelf to sell to the general public!
ME (not wanting to hamper such happy enthusiasm for office disorganization, excited-sounding, totally almost genuine): Great! Can you put it aside for me?
GIRL: Right away! Are you coming today?
ME: Yes I am!
GIRL (breathless enthusiasm): Then it'll be here, with your name on it. Have a great day, Mr. Sherwood.
