I'm at my dad's school this morning, helping with his Macintosh computers. We're updating all the system software so that the kiddies can use the latest and greatest stuff. It's really kinda scary--these middle schoolers know how to edit digital video, program in HTML, put on a broadcast, and produce a television show. In their spare time, they actually go to other classes like Math and English.
And I used to revel in the fact that I could program a VCR at the age of 10. Childhood is getting more advanced--you better have your resume ready.
I wonder what I was thinking about when I was their age. I remember every day being full of activity (and, in my case, full of stress--perfectionism + gifted classes usually equals early ulcers). I remember agonizing over friendships and crushes, test assignments and report cards. But, mostly I remember fun--I wrote for a school magazine, played saxaphone in band, did a little bit of drama and chorus. The world seemed to be just waiting for me to break out of the rest of my schooling...now I'm just waiting--I think the world's gotten over it. =)
