She's Watching...

So, I've been slowly getting all my "life ducks" in a row. I've been a bit tired of getting good at one thing--for example, my work projects-- while something else in my life suffered--for example, the dishes. So, my goal recently has been to get things up to snuff so that each part of my life only needs minimal maintenance to sparkle. This ideal is borrowed from a book about cleaning that my mom once read. Sigh.

The apartment is getting better, work is getting better, relationships are getting better. However, while waiting for a haircut in the mall the other day, I started thinking about how my side projects have fallen by the wayside. I have websites, stories, screenplays to finish--each enjoyable, each with a different set of friends waiting for the finished project. There's one website, in particular, that I REALLY need to finish. It's for a friend's movie. One that may actually be a movie other people watch.

So, as I'm obsessing about this project, I start talking myself down from the ledge...it's just a website, it's just a movie, it's not like it's some big thing.

Then, I look up. And plastered across the entrance to the department store that I was waiting in front of are very large posters of the movie's lead actress, now a model for a very high end makeup line that launched a new product last week. I lost my breath as each of her 30 eyes bored into me saying "Where the hell is my website, nerdy boy?"

So, sure, this isn't a normal thing to happen, but sometimes those are the kinds of things to get my behind in gear. Lets just say that I have a few mock ups ready.

Then the models won't haunt me when I sleep.
